The first option is to do -it-yourself. This is the cheapest option. It won’t cost you anything other than the filing fees. The second option is to hire a form preparer. These are unlicensed individuals who sometimes have a brick and mortar location. They usually have a sign up that says “immigration.” Some are even online and if you are not careful you may even believe they are attorneys. They advertise themselves as “notarios,” “immigration advisors” or “immigration assistants.” These people are not doing anything more than what you could have done yourself. They will simply get the USCIS forms, read the instructions and type your information for you. You could have easily done that yourself and saved the “document preparation fee.”
